About

JOSE MANRUBIA

Freeing himself from the academic lesson, freely exploring the landscapes of his aesthetic universes, different and similar at the same time. Perhaps a fine connoisseur of disordered imaginations...

A pictorial aesthetic, intensely linked to the living, to the earth, the humanities that inhabit it, its beauty, its mirages... The eternal report of the passage of the impalpable, chimeras, stars, time.

"From my first street art actions at the beginning of the 90s, using the advertising media and the squats of the colossal megalopolis of Mexico City as a field of intervention, encouraging me in an artistic approach with a subversive dimension, to my today's work in the workshop, recovering these same poster panels through the cities where I live. Treated, smoothed, cared for, revitalized paper. Paper much more than a support, an accomplice testifying to different otherness, to forgotten lives...

My constant questioning pushes me to explore the areas of my daily life, of my imagination, tinged with dreams, absolutes. Through a figurative pictorial expression using the ballpoint pen as the main medium, or abstract using canvas, fabric, cardboard and paper as always. The power of color in its purest intention, the simplicity of the pen and its minimalism. Monochrome or colored alchemies, random compositions somewhere channeled giving the final appearance of ageless works with contemporary relief.
