Ballpoint Pen
Works in ballpoint pen on paper. From my first experiences of urban art, using as a support the billboards of the immense megalopolis of Mexico City, I kept the taste for paper, the spirit of rebellion and the hope that art can change the world. My tags at that time, the early 1990s, were intended to raise awareness by attacking this propaganda tool of our consumerist societies, advertising.
While being faithful to my ideas, my unconditional love for trees, my planet, a constant concern for ecology, my work since that time has evolved and taken different paths. Evolution in the pictorial representations, also in the techniques used. The material used for these ballpoint pen creations is exclusively paper. Posters "harvested" in a way when they are mature along the cities where I stay. It is in the workshop after several weeks of preparation that I proceed to their metamorphosis.
Each part of these pieces of posters, according to their reliefs their shapes will inspire, guide the drawing creation that I will realize, in ballpoint pen essentially, black, after having painted them with white acrylic. It is a form of transcendence where "I write" my drawing. Some works are worked on over a period of time that can exceed a year. I then let play the natural oxidation of the passage of time, which adds an unexpected side, an inherent magic beyond the ordered line of the pen.
In the same spirit but using paper in other forms, rolls of Canson paper, stains and scraps of paper recovered from depots, printing works, I transcribe my imagination with no other element than the pen on the paper.
